Who is the best joker and why Jared Leto isn't
After the initial release of suicide squad, there was a lot of mixed reception about Jared Leto's portrayal of the iconic character, but let's face it, it wasn't great. So I'm going to look into the best Joker over all the times we have seen him on screen.
1. Mark Hamill.
Probably that best animated joker ever seen, due to the fact he is the only one people actually remember from the animated Batman shows. Player the joker in the Batman animated series, Batman Beyond tv series and return of the joker film, as well as 3 of the four Arkham games, thus joker is certainly one of the originals and longest running portrayal of the character, as well as the most frequently used. The character is so well done j this version as it sticks straight to the comic books with the story of him, as well as his actions and speech style. The fact is, is that there is nothing that Hamill could go against with t his version, because he is THE joker, and he was darker than what we had seen on screen before, especially silly in the Arkahm Asylum game. He is also one of the first to make it on to screen. Apart from the next person.
2. Caesar Romero
Being the first official joker to be seen on screen back in 1966, he is also the first live action version of the character. Being portrayed in the Batman and Robin tv show, the joker was seen in for most of the series run time, as well as the film that came with it. It is a very good idea of what the joker was back when he was first thought out of, but the problem is that it is hard to see a light hearted joker like this, kid suitable in a way, when in fact when you list the things he has done, such as murder robin, cut off his own face etc, it is hard to imagine him being like this.
3. Jack Nickleson
This joker was the one people most remember, as he was the first one to be introduced to people outside the script bubble for fans. This joker was the first to take on the dark side of the character in 1989's the Batman. The character does well to be shown as this dark irrational man with no reason, as well as being very close to the comic book origin story. The actor has also done well into taking in his own style with the character, changing the look with a Beret as well as make up instead of bleached skin. However, this version doesn't seem realistic enough, and even though that is not the point of this character, the sense of realism is what makes this character so scary and intimidating. Like his successor.
4. Heath Ledger
This has to be the definition of the charcater, the joker. In What has been praised as the best portrayal of a villain in a film ever by most people, he has to come at the top of the list in the best portrayal of the character. Appearing in the dark knight, its a totally new take on the character, with new ideas and concepts. It's the realism of this version that makes him so good, and how far the director let him go in the film, as well as the preparation the actor made, driving himself insane to get him right. Every moment we have with the character shows us how deadly he is, how much he is without reason, how much he has evolved throughout the course of his life, everything fits together to make this performance amazing. As well a that, this version takes something into itself, forming new ideas of the character, such as the fact that there is no one origin story to the guy, and his name is not even teased in the film. This comes to get her to make one hell of a performance, its just s Shane that the Ledger didn't live to see it.
5. Jared Leto
Now we come to the real reason we are here, the new guy. This version of the joker just doesn't do it for me, and a lot of other fans also. It's the fact that the actor has tried too much to be like Heath Ledgers version, right down to the sending strange gift area of the job. It's also the fact that he is hardly in the film, and that he is basically unnecessary, making him that much more unlikable. As well a this, its the fact that he just ends up being in the film at one stage, then he's here, then he's doing this, he's so all over the place and its annoying. On top of this, he acts like a cat halfway throughout the film, which is just plain stupid. There is no sense to this version, in a way that makes him seem like a rip off. Let's take the scene where Harley becomes Harley. He's gonna kill her, then let's her jump into acid and starts to walk off. Then for no reason he turns around and joins her. Hopefully in the justice league film he has a moral change of heart.
