The surprise success of Kingsman: The Secret Service has lead life into the second instalment. After the vents of the first film, Eggsy (Edgerton) has joined the high ranks of the Kingsman, but after a Drug Lord (Moore) destroys the Kingsman, they seek refuge with the American cousins, the Statesman, and attempt to bring down the Golden Circle. From the start of the film, it gets straight into the story, with a spectacular action sequence that does well to build up later events. that is one of the key improvements from the last film, the action is more confident than the last one, with the same notable style, but with more daring and content, learning from what they did before. As well as this the humor is stepped up a fair part, with returning gags from the last one, with a lot of call-backs and references to the first. For me where this one is not a strong is in the story, as for me I preferred the underdog narrative in the first one. As well as this its a very sensitive story line, playing with the idea of Drugs and Overdosing. And while the villain is very Good in this one, her character for me was not as well built up a Samuel L. Jackson's Valentine. But These are very small nit-picks at a really fun movie which was generally enjoying and left you wanting more of that gripping action, and is filled with a lot of emotion, especially with the return of Harry Hart (Collin Firth), even if it seemed a bit convoluted. Nevertheless it is still a great action piece.
Contains: Drug use, frequent bad language, Violence, Frightening scenes, scenes of gore.
My rating 7.7/10
