Star Trek beyond

Released 22nd July 2016
BBFC rating 12
Directed by Justin Lin
After the brilliance that was 'Into Darkness', the Star Trek reboot prequel series has returned for the third instalment with a new hand at the helm, Fast and Furious director James Wan. The film starts off as traditional Star Trek film, with the enterprise doing basic missions, until it is tricked and abandoned on a planet fighting against Idris Elba's 'Krall'. The film certainly has the attitude of the last one with the same amount of drama, mixed with sci find action, and a lot of Fast-and-Furious-isms thrown into the film, which really sets it apart from the other two previous films. But it certainly still holds up, with more comedy than the last films, as well as the run of the mill Enterprise getting destroyed scene.  The returning cast are excellent as usual with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg reprising there well loved roles, with new-comer Zoe Salander joking the crew also. As well a that it has many references to the earlier films and the original series which is quite a good tribute to them. My only issue with the film is that it seems very split, with a load of different storylines for the most of the film, which makes it hard to follow, however in doing so has opened up more character relationships that haven't been seen yet, making the film unique and one to watch for die hard fans to a first viewer.
Contains violence and infrequent bad language
My rating 8.5/10
