John Wick Parabellum

Image
Released: 17th May 2019 BBFC Rating: 15 Directed by: Chad Stahelski Cast: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane The original John Wick is, in my opinion, an action master piece. With properly shot and executed action sequences and a subversion on the genre which was starting to be saturated with the stereotype of quick cuts and a lead character who you couldn't really care for. John wick chapter 3 sets off directly after the previous film, with a 14 million dollar bounty on his head and all his previous friends turned against him, John must make his way through New York and find a way to end his execution order. This film does not wait to get straight into the action, with the first scenes of the film being John involved in a almost choreographed fight. That pretty much sets up the whole movie, with there never really being a break from the violence. For the most part I enjoy this aspect of the film, with it exploring new ...

Avengers: Endgame ( Spoilers )

Image
Released: April 25th 2019 BBFC rating: 12 Directed by: Anthony and Joe Russo Cast: Robert Downey Jn., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Don Cheadle Before we start this review I will say again, Spoilers will be in this review. If you need to; go away and watch the film then come back when you've seen it. This movie starts off pretty much directly after Infinity War with Tony Stark ( Robert Downey Jn. ) floating in space with little hope, who gets rescued by Captain Marvel ( Brie Larson ). Jump ahead 5 years and all the Avengers are glum because 50% of all people are gone. When Ant Man ( Paul Rudd ) returns they devise a plot to get the infinity stones back and defeat Thanos. If that plot sounds confusing that's because it is, and something I felt throughout the film is that people may struggle to keep up with what is going on, especially considering the 3 hour run time. However for the most part I enjoyed ...

Spiderman: Far from home

Image
Released: 5th July 2019 Directed by: Jon Watts BBFC Rating: 12A Cast: Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Samuel L. Jackson. Avengers Endgame left the MCU in a point where as a viewer I felt closure. The 11 year long Mongul had capped off what it had been building since the first Avengers film and the series has finally started to move into a new era. Spiderman man far from home very much acts like the bridge from the original series into the new phase of Marvel movies. The film picks up almost immediately after Endgame, with the world discovering what had occurred, the five year difference between those killed in Infinity war and Endgame being seen clearly and the aftereffects of the loss of Iron Man being felt. Spiderman has to work with Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio to fight the elementals after his world was destroyed by them while trying to blend in on his schools tour of Europe. This film appeals to me in the same way that Homecoming did, with the life of Peter parker pre...

Bond 25: No time to Die

Image
What do we Actually know about Bond 25? Last week we got the confirmation that the next Bond film will be titled ' No time to die ', and it was followed with a confirmed release date of 3rd April 2020. As well as being the last film with Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond it may also be the film to cap off the this whole storyline set up in Casino Royale and brought together by Spectre. This film is also very significant in terms of Pop culture, with the rise of the superhero genre ( a topic which I am currently writing about ) dominating modern cinema, and this latest instalment of the classic franchise being one of the few in 2020 which will stand as part of a popular series but not exist in the format of a cinematic universe. So lets discuss what we know about the film so far, what the story is going to be, possible connections to the other films and more importantly how it will stand out not only against the previous 4 films but also in the industry all together. If y...

Fast and furious presents: Hobbs and Shaw

Image
Released: 1st August 2019 (UK) BBFC Rating: 12A Directed By: David Leitch Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Vanessa Kirby, Idris Elba The Fast movies have been slowly moving away from their history in street car racing and the gang style movies of the originals, and more towards the traditional action flick, with the first of the spin offs; Hobbs and Shaw, being the one which almost entirely tips the series away from being a car movie and towards a movie featuring some cars. It focuses, as the title suggests, around Agent Luke Hobbs ( Johnson ) and Mercenary ( Statham ) teaming up together to take down electronically enhanced assassin Brixton ( Idris Elba ) as he aims to find a programmable bio weapon. Simply from that description of the film you can see it is starting to take a very silly tone, however its hard to tell from the film whether it is presenting the plot ironically or is trying to take itself seriously. I went into this expecting that it would be a wild ride of a fi...

Best Lad night films

It's a Friday night. You get back with the lads, spend some time gaming, have a lot to eat, and it gets to the end of the night. You sit down to watch a film, but what to watch?  Its a common issue, trying to find a film to satisfy a group of people, all likely to have varying opinions on the recent releases. Well here are my ten choices for films that will hopefully sort out the stress. 10. Thor: Ragnarok Thor Ragnarok is probably one of the most fun Marvel films in the MCU excluding the Guardians films, and is undoubtedly one of the funniest. Thor: Ragnarok is truly the lovechild of Taika Waititi, and is an easy film for a group of people to laugh over, while still being simple enough to watch outside the massive MCU continuity. The film revolves around a simple Hero Vs Villain story, however simply put- feels like a comic book, from the colourful graphics to the mythical characters, it has you on the edge of your seat every time you see it, and is a great quick and relaxing f...
