Avengers Endgame left the MCU in a point where as a viewer I felt closure. The 11 year long Mongul had capped off what it had been building since the first Avengers film and the series has finally started to move into a new era. Spiderman man far from home very much acts like the bridge from the original series into the new phase of Marvel movies. The film picks up almost immediately after Endgame, with the world discovering what had occurred, the five year difference between those killed in Infinity war and Endgame being seen clearly and the aftereffects of the loss of Iron Man being felt. Spiderman has to work with Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio to fight the elementals after his world was destroyed by them while trying to blend in on his schools tour of Europe. This film appeals to me in the same way that Homecoming did, with the life of Peter parker presented in a more fun way than that of the other Spiderman franchises, and as a whole the film is very fun loving. The cast are very believable as teenagers and I think that Gyllenhaal is a great addition to the film, playing a very cool superhero who is very likeable to the audience. It also does very well to tie into the rest of the films, however this can feel a bit forced sometimes, with a lot ( and I mean a lot) of references to the wider universe, which at some points can come off as a bit forced. It's nice to see Samuel L. Jackson back in a larger role in these films, bringing a stern yet comedic tone to the film, and as usual Tom Holland brings a brilliant take on his character to the film, something which will be surely missed from the MCU. The problems I took away however aren't necessarily with the film its more with the wider universe, with the story constantly to feel as part of the universe even after the massive tie up at the end of Endgame, something which started to bother me after Endgame spent a great deal of time wrapping up story. It was hard for me to watch this an d still feel as if I want to know more about the wider universe it is advertising so much throughout the narrative, and I wonder if it works better as a standalone film ( something very hard to achieve after what it is following ). However that's just my feeling on where this universe is heading, overall it was a fun and enjoyable film which does well to keep you engaged throughout as well as bringing a smaller story in the universe. Be sure to comment your thoughts on the film and how you feel about the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
Contains Fantasy violence, distressing images and crude and bad language.
