While Frozen was undoubtedly a successful movie, I do keep having to ask myself whether it was actually a good one. it was hard to work out whether I liked it or not considering how much it was rammed down my throat even years after it released. While my mind wasn't, and still isn't made up on the original, it certainly is on this new one. Frozen 2 takes place some time after the first, asking the question unresolved from the first: what happened to Elsa and Ana's parents? This movie attempts to solve that issue as well as unpacking the mythos of this ever expanding world that has fascinated millions. I'll get to issues later on what I will say now is this, I certainly did have some fun with this movie. Whether this was due to the fact it was finally something new for these characters or a more interesting premise, a lot of good world building and emotional character development and exploration of relationships that we haven't seen before really did make it quite watchable. However its not all brilliant. I wont go into the songs too much however they were forgettable bar maybe one or two, however the big kicker for this film is its reliance on the first. A good example I'm going to use for this is an odd one but its John Wick. In the second one there are maybe a few one off references to the first to help move the story and bring in characters meaningfully, and it works well; because its discreet. Frozen 2 relies so heavily on the first to, I'm going to say justify this new one, and it slows the story down massively while getting really annoying when it gets to the end of the movie, serving virtually no purpose other than to Revell in their own success. I also think that the humour in this is well off, with jokes that aren't so much hidden cleverly for adults and rather shouting at them in teh face to keep them " entertained ". I also think there's a lot of confusing story lines that cut in front of one another way too often to keep track of whats going on, and while they are often quite interesting they just start to lose me after a while. Overall I think it is far from bad, very much best of the mid level Disney stuff. Better than the original? I'm not sure yet but I'm leaning towards no sadly. Then again I'm not the audience for this film and I'm sure for them it achieved exactly its purpose in building on from the original and keeping teh characters fresh.
Contains threat.
