Spider-Man: Homecoming
Released: July 7th 2017 (U.K)
BBFC rating: 12A
Directed by: Jon Watts
After Marvel announced that they would be helming a Spider-Man film inside the MCU, there where speculations of he best Spider-Man film to date. Marvel has taken that place at the top spot and Homecoming has successfully integrated Spidey into the timeline of the MCU. The film starts off really well, matching up to Peter Parker's ( Spider-Man's) prospective of the event of Civil war exactly to the footage of the third Captain America film, and moves into the main plot in the present from there. The film centres around a a newly formed Spider-Man who tries to stop a gang of criminals who are selling alien weapons to dangerous, in an attempt to prove himself to the Avengers. The great thing about this is that fans of the previous attempts to the property don't have to endure another origins story that has been well established in the other films, and can move straight into the main story, with the details of what happened only being mentioned throughout the first act. To new time viewers of the franchise this may be an issue, and will not understand the main motives of the character, but being place after the events of Civil war, with the character already established, it would have made little sense to add that. I think that Michael Keaton as the Vulture was a great choice, and managed to create some realism to the character, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man was the best to date, as he is accurate to the character, and not a fully developed adult pretending to be a high school student. There are great twists in the film, brilliant action choreography and the timeline of the film seems to work well, not repeating too many aspects throughout the film. There were some issues with it, such as the character of Aunt May being quite underdeveloped, some continuity, and like I said some lack of information to first time views to the franchise. But honestly it is really nice to see the character done justice, and for nerd's such as me it was great to see so much that we had asked for since 2007's Spider-Man 3.
Contains mild bad language and violence.
my rating 8.6/10
