Batman v Superman: why does Batman kill?
One of the main problems found with Batman v Superman dawn of justice, is the fact that Batman has been portrayed as a murder. Now in comic books and other forms of media, it has been clearly stated that Batman has the one rule that prevents him from killing. There are many reasons why he could be doing so, and I'm going to share some of the theorists behind it. Baring in mind spoilers for the film and also that this is all conspiracy, and am working off what I have, so it's not 100% accurate.
1. He's New to the role
If you've read the comic Batman year one, then you'll probably see a lot of similarities to his methods in the book and the film. In Batman year one, we see a younger Bruce Wayne, New To his position as Batman, and still finding his feet a bit with the job. In the book he has been know to put down a lot of his villains and uses very brutal methods in the line of work. However, I don't think that this is the reason he does so in the film, as it is said that it has been '20 years in Gotham' ,when Bruce is discussing the reliability of Superman. So he's been doing this for a long time, so he's probably not an amateur.
2. A permanent solution
We know this Batman has been at it for 2 decades now, and I think he might be seeing his work getting undone when the criminals just break out again. So maybe he's going ' I'm sick and tired of ya' criminals just ruining my work, so I'm gonna kill you'll, or something along those lines. This seems perfectly reasonable, as he is still only just human, so it will show, but I don't think this is the case in the film, as it is would have no place in the story and just doesnt work for him. Also this is not something we've heard him do in the past, so I don't think it would be adapted here, when there was so much to risk in this film anyway.
3. A death in the family.
In the film it's clearly stated as cannon that the Jason Todd ark has happened and that he is dead ( spoilers). So a lot of the theory going around is that he is doing it in vengeance and in anger of losing Robin, and we can see that in the film, that he's still emotional when we see the tattered suit that belonged to him. This seems like the most likely reason that he has done all this, as again he is only human and feels emotion, so is going to react in some way, that just turned out to be the lack of care for the life of the people that took his son away from him. There is of course a number of reasons against this, like the fact that when his parents died, he acted the opposite, but this still seems the most likely reason for it.
4. The plot of the film
I know this seems weird but hear me out. You have to look at the film from a number of different perspectives to see it what it actually is. Remember that this is sequel to man of steel making it a Superman film, meaning that, yes, Batmans the bad guy here. You also have to look at the fact that Batman is the one initiating the fight between them, and the one trying to kill Superman. So I think the main reason that he kills in the film is to bring out the darkness and ruthlessness in this version, to show him as the antagonist, and then to show him as the protagonist when he stops. But your probably saying ' wait, but he was a good guy after they made up, and he still killed all those thugs in the satellite's. Yes he did, but there are reasons. Number 1: he has to stop the death of Martha, which is pretty important to him, as you see earlier in the film, so he is going to take any means necessary. Also, number 2: You can't just have Batman go ' I've made friends with this alien now, I'm going to reconsider my life choices '. There needed to be a substantial moment where her changed. So he stopped when Superman died, to give respect and honour to his name. So Zach Snyder put in all the killing for a reason, not just because he loves this idea of Batman, or he might have done, I don't know, I spend my time writing things like this, which could all be made up anyway, wasting my time and yours. This is a reason to reconsider Life choices.
But anyway, I belive that reason 3 is most likely in the story, and reason 4 to help the film move on. Anyway I hope you enjoyed this post, please like and comment if you want more, and check out my reviews below. Next week I'll be looking at Marvel and the future for them. Thanks for reading.
