Last week I reviewed Mission impossible Fallout, praising it as one of two of the best films 2018, the second of those being Blackklansman. Based on the true story of the first Black police detective in the Colorado police Dept., Blackklansman follows the story of Ron Stallworth ( Washington ) who, along with his partner Flip Zimmerman ( Driver ), attempts to infiltrate the KKK as they plan terrorist attacks. I often have said that the films that leave a deep impression on me in the long run in terms of fear aren't usually the ultra gory or massively violent or jump scare films, but those which present a truly scarring and horrible human nature, one which scares you because its so real. that for me is why this film is so good and so important, because when you sit through this and you know its real and that all this happens it leaves an impression on you of just pure horror, and in terms of some of the characters you are watching disgust. This was a brilliant story to tell because its one that through and through just becomes more and more shocking, whether that's from the hateful nature of the antagonist characters that scare you, or just the surprising aspect of what is happening in the narrative Blackkklansman works so well because it is so unique in what it presents. I loved the performance of Stallworth from Washington who really does stand out in the film, as well as Driver who puts in a very strong performance. I think this is a very important film for you to watch because after everything you see ( and I may delve into spoilers here so skip to the end if you want absolutely none ) the film ends on a montage of all the BLM movements we saw in 2016 and 2017 and reinforces the nature of " what you've seen is shocking and appalling but still goes on today". For me that's what really left an impression on me, the realism of what was being shown and that this film is more than just a historical biopic, it is still going, that for me is why it earns its place as best film of 2018.
