Thursday Rant

The future of the D.C. extended universe The D.C. films have started to catch up to the on growing success of the Marvel Cinematic universe, so expect alot more D.c films to come out over the next couple of years. Now most people seem to be live that they are rushing it or that Sac Snyder could direct bull crap, but it makes no difference in the fact that this is what is most likely going to happen. Now some of it is confirmed and some is speculation, so don't expect everything you read here to be 100% accurate, also spoilers for man of stellar and Batman v Superman, but its not like I'm gonna go out and say that Batman is a woman ( he's not ) or that Superman dies in the end of Batman V Superman (#spoilers). Anyway let's get into the future of D.C. films. Wonder Woman I'm honing to be honest, I don't know much about this film, but I have done some research into it. From what's been released it looks like this film will be set in the final stages of Wo...

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Image
Released 2002 Bbfc rating PG In what was one of the worst Star Wars films ever seen, expect nothing more from the last instalment. From more of what made the last film boring and dull, comes the exact same thing, except this time it came with the worst thing to ever hit Star Wars since Jar Jar, Hayden Christiansen acting. In one of the worst performances of a character seen, watch the actor take time out of the story to talk about sand, as well as literally ripping off his own son from a new hope. The only step up from the last film is the increased action in the film, adding something to actually watch in the film. The film is so slow in moving, you have to wait over an hour to see the main villain. It gets worse when they just throw in the fact that the enemy has a massive army and the fact that the reason for the Clone Wars is Boba Fetts father. Honestly only watch this film of you are a completionist, or if your looking for a documentary on sand. My rating: 6.1 Contai...

Thursday Rant

The future of Star Wars With rouge one out this week there will be a lot of questions going around from the last film, such as who are Rey's parents, who are Finn's parents, who are Snoke's parents, is Donald Trump actually going to be president, or is it just a hoax, all intriguing questions, that sadly won't be answered by this film (well maybe the Donald one, I don't know). So don't expect much information about episode 8 or 9 from this film. So it will lead people to say ' what is going to happen with Star Wars' in the next couple of years, people like Georrge Lucas, and of course me, which is what I will be talking about below. Bearing in mind potential spoilers for the next couple of Star Wars films, as well as The Force awakens, and I won't be looking at Rouge one, as I'll be saving that for a later date, so let's get on. Episode VIII The follow up to episode 7 is due to land in cinemas late next year, and, according to previous ...

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Image
Released: 1999 Rated:PG When the news dropped that there would be another Star Wars, people were all excited for what was to come. However it didn't really turn out like that. The main problem is that it is generally pretty boring for most of the film. And the thing is, that's not what was supposed to happen. Like, if I said there was a star wars film with Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Samuel L Jackson, it would turn out pretty well, but that is not the case. The film is mainly just politics and talking (Theo's random politics area), followed by an occasional plot movement followed by people jumping with lightsabers. The other problem is the actual script for the film. It is just so bland, bearing in mind this is BEFORE Hayden Christiansen.  The only good part to the film was Darth maul, and he's only in it for about 20 minutes. If you where planning on watching a Star Wars film, please refrain from this one first, come back to it later. Contains mild violence ...

Thursday rant

The future of the marvel cinematic universe Its no surprise that the Marvel Cinematic universe will eventually have to end. But that won't be for a long time. This does ensure that Marvel will have to make changes to the castinng of the characters in the films, as a lot of the actors contracts will come to end soon. People like Chris Evans may stay for the long run, but he will more likely be behind the camera, directing the new captain. But it does ask questions as to what will come of the franchise after phase four is over, and I have come upbwith theories as to what will happen. Bearing in mind spoilers for most MCU films and that this is all speculation, so it could go any way. 1. Continuation The main theory is that it just won't stop at phase 4, and most likely go into 5. The films have done well to set up other charcters outside the main Avengers, such as the Falcon, Doctor Strange and War Machine. This will most likely run into new Avengers films, with Strange taki...

The Dark Knight Rises

Image
Released 2012 BBFC rating 12 In the finale to Christopher Nolans Dark knight trilogy, we see the greatness of Batman return in one of the most iconic story's he's been in. The Knightfall Ark has been well re-enacted in the last chapter to the story, with Christian Bale reprising his role one last time, this time facing off against Tom Hardy's Bane. The director has done well to sum up the trilogy, but it lacks a lot that the last film did. It was never going to be easy to top the huge success that was the Dark Knight, and it has shown. The film is a good one, but there is only 33 minutes of Batman in the whole story, but which has let it down slightly. The story though has given it a reason for this, but it just seems a little off balance. It would have been nice to see it thrash the ratings and opinions of The Dark Knight, but after all those performances, it may have been just too hard. I still be live this is a great film however, and still worth a watch Contain...

Thursday Rant

This is a new section I'm introducing, called Thursday Rant. It's basically where I'm talking about a certain theme or news arisen  lately in film or comic books. I hope you enjoy it and comment on your favourite batman in the comment section below. Thanks Batman v Superman: why does Batman kill? One of the main problems found with Batman v Superman dawn of justice, is the fact that Batman has been portrayed as a murder. Now in comic books and other forms of media, it has been clearly stated that Batman has the one rule that prevents him from killing. There are many reasons why he could be doing so, and I'm going to share some of the theorists behind it. Baring in mind spoilers for the film and also that this is all conspiracy, and am working off what I have, so it's not 100% accurate. 1. He's New to the role If you've read the comic Batman year one, then you'll probably see a lot of similarities to his methods in the book and the film. In Batman ...

The Dark Knight

Image
Released 2008 BBFC rating 12 From visionary director Christopher nolan comes the undisputed best superhero film EVER. Nolan has done a good job in topping his last film, Batman begins, and has launched superhero films into a new era. Christian Bale returns as the Caped Crusaider and returns to a series that fits this new, modern Batman well. But let's not forget that no film is without its villain, and we've got a good one. Heath Ledger brings a new, intelligent take to the Clown Prince of crime, and makes one of the best performances ever seen, creating an icon for the villain and setting the bar pretty high for Jared Leto. Together the actors and the director's come together to create a masterpiece, that is not only entertaining, but diverting and interesting, with strong story and quick twists, along with fast paced action that is truly astonishing, The Dark knight is truly unmissable My rating : 9.8/10 Contains violence, bad language, and scenes that could frigh...

Batman Begins

Image
BBFC rating 12 Released 2005 After Joel Schumacher's poor attempt at a Batman film, almost killing the franchise, the world needed a welcome reboot, in the form of Batman begins. Christopher Nolan brings an enticing story that focuses on the training of Bruce Wayne in becoming the Bat and helps to connect with the comics it was adapted from. Christian Bale does well to portray the Dark Knight in this masterpiece of a work, going as far as to say, almost one of the best Batman portrayal's ever. It had great villains in the form of scarecrow and Ras Al Ghaul, that made a great entry to the film adaptation, with the supporting cast of Michael Caine and Liam Neeson portraying amazing roles. Defiantly the film we deserved , and after Batman and Robin, the one that was needed. My rating: 9.1 Contains violence and moderate threat Image subject and copyright to Warner brothers pictures limited . I do not own the image.

The Dark Knight returns part 2

Image
Released 2013 The second part to the film adaptation to Frank Miller's epic creation, The Dark Knight returns, and the film fails to disappoint. With everything that people came to expect from a Batman film and more almost giving us the Batman v Superman some would say we never got. Jay Olivia does well to create another riveting watch as we see the return of the classic and well known characters such as Joker and Superman as well as Robin, returning from part 1. Overall it is a very enjoyable end to the series with the action and adventure we saw from the last film with some new twists and plots original to the film. I would highly recommend this film, even if you haven't seen part one, simply because it is as good without it and does prove that the second part is usually the best. My rating: 8.9/10 Contains blood, violence and moderate bad language. image subject and copyright to warner brothers animated pictures limited.

the dark knight returns part 1

Image
Bbfc rating 15 released 2013 Drawn from one of the most respected comics released from dc comics and written by frank miller, comes a great animated action adventure that will stun you with unexpected greatness. The story is very anticipating with well know characters returning to the dc universe after 10 years of Batman supposed retirements. Among those fan favorites are two fave and the commissioner along with new additions to a great story like; a new to in and mutants. With superb voice work by the actors with the addition of a great soundtrack, this I a great movie, not only fo dc fans, but for any teenager into a good action thriller. It is certainly darker than other animated clocks, but honestly it's worth it to get that relalistic atmosphere from the film my rating : 8.4/10 contains blood, bad language and strong violence image subject and copyright to warner brothers animated pictures limited

Ocean's 13

Image
Released : 24 may 2007 Bbfc rating : pg A brilliant end to the oceans trilogy that sewed up the story while try in to forget the last one as much as possible. It was a lot more interesting on top of that with an actual heist this time with a good story behind it and finally some actual night fox doing something in a ocean's film. It also has more to offer than the last one with shuttle humour and a lot more actual heist work. The cast are back and are still great with George , Brad and Matt doing an amazing job with excellent support from Andy Garcia. If there was any way the films producers and writers could do to return from the last film they have done the right job with this brilliant watch Contains mild language My rating 8.2/10

Ocean's twelve

Image
Released 10th December 2004 Bbfc rating 12 The disappointing and unnecessary sequel to the large success of oceans eleven, oceans twelve was a total let down and no where near a better story. The main problem with the film is that it is very jumpy with no real objective in the plot and a lot of sudden changes to what was available. The cast however are still very good in what they where doing with the same attitude to the last film but where let down by the story. I did like the villain of the film but unfortunately there was not a lot to the night fox so he was quite a small role in the whole of it. Over all it could have been a lot better but it is what it is Contains mild bad language My rating:6.7/10

Ocean's eleven (2001)

Image
Bbfc rating : 12 Released: 7th December 2001 A movie unexpected in its quality and an all star cast to rival saturday night live oceans eleven is a well done film being one of the all time greatest heist films made. With superb acting from the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon it is a very enjoyable film that is good for a relaxing but yet well concentrated evening. Ocean's eleven is a film that can mostly lose you at points and give you humour at others but is a very well done film in a very underappreciated genre of film at the time and does well to stand out 15 years later and still one of the greatest hiests in a film ever seen  Contains infrequent bad languge. My rating 8.5/10

July update

This month I was hoping to do a set of themed reviews around heist films. There are not that many films in this category but I hope it will open up some good ideas of films to watch in the summer. I plan to release 6 reviews over the next three weeks and these should be on a Friday and a Tuesday starting on The 12th of July. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to like and comment as well as +1 Thanks

Star trek (2009)

Image
Released: 8th may 2009 Bbfc rating : 12 The welcome return to the franchise after around 7 years of unrest and anticipation for the return of everybody's favourite sci find film ( unless your a star wars person ). J.J Abrmas does well to bring it back along with an excellent cast of newbies to the films such as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinton and the return of Leonard Nemoy to make all thwe fans cheer. The film is very pleasing with a lot of action for the mainstream but enough nervousness for the trekkys. The film does well to set up the story for the continued trilogy and is certainly very enjoyable and at some points quite funny. Nevertheless it is thoroughly interesting and entertaining and it will keep you hooked for the full run time my rating: 8.9/10 Contains violence, bad language and fantasy violence In memory of Anton yelchin (1989 - 2016)

Transformers

Image
Bbfc rating:12 Released: 3rd July 2007 The film that caused so much anger and hatred among critics and fans alike and the reason for so much let down can only be summed up in one sentence. What the hell is this. The film can be pretty much predicted its value from who directed it. Michael Bay met all the expectations we thought he would bring such as explosions, sexism, explosions and more explosions. It's fair to say that there is probably more expulsions than plot. However that being said where bit lacks in ideals of story or anything is brought back by the enjoyment of the fighting of massive robots that will bring out your inner 8 year old. The human actors brought, however, nothing to the film and the only good part warning act the Transformers themselves. The film is a disappointment but is a good film for you if your brain dead and need to watch some pure action. Contains strong violence, infrequent bad language and sexual references My rating:5.9/10

Captain America: civil war

Image
Bbfc rating 12 Released:29 April 2016 A massive opponent to the batman vs superman fiasco and a welcome and predictable win. Mark and Antoine Russo return for their second mcu film and are back with one of the best marvel films ever. With a great storyline that puts a bar for dc and any other superhero film, civil war has one of the best comics put to life Leland keeps us asking for more comic adaptations like this that stays close to the comic but adapts it for what is needed. The reasoning for the fight between cap and Tony was clearly stated and very well done with a villain with some believable intentions back in the shape of zemo. The cap and Bucky relationship is clearly shown and the banter between the characters has not disappeared. Theatrical of panther and Spiderman was done well and leaves us gasping for more. We can only hope that dc puts up a fight again and even challenges the dark night closely. Contains violence and infrequently used bad language My rating:...

The bourne identity

Image
: Released: 14th June 2002 Bbfc rating:12 A classic action film that has the grittyness of the book with the talent of Matt Damon showing a great performance of his career. With gritty and intense action that has you on the edge with the realism shown through expertly handled shots with a great soundtrack to round it off the first of an action packed series will have you thrilled and wanting even more Bourne. Contains violence and occasional scenes of threat My rating 7.4/10

Batman vs superman detailed review (spoilers)

The film Batman vs superman had a lot of controversy on how Batman would be a match for superman. While it is thought that it was done wrong the majority see the threat of death in the family for superman as a reasonable excuse. The character of lex was one well redeveloped with nods towards  heath ledgers joker with the whole oldest lie in America and sudden outburst of energy. The death of superman however was not handled with care as they hint a resurrection at the end ruining the possibility of more hype to see wether he was truly dead in the next film. The characters of flash, cyborg and Aquaman where well set up ready for the justice league but again wonder woman was under-developed. Overall the film was a success with the exception with this gun wielding killer Batman who brands people like a socio pathe. It still keeps us excited for the justice league with a seventh member still to be confirmed. There only to wait now.

Batman vs superman: dawn of justice

Image
Released:25th March 2016 Bbfc rating: 12a The setup for the dc expanded universe has come and it was not what was expected. There was always going to be the problem in the film of reasons to get these two to fight and up think it is done very well. It takes aspects from man of steel that help set up the universe such as the flash forward to apocalypse. The music helps bring a dark and depressing atmosphere allowing the story to evolve. Ben Affleck does well as well as the other newcomer to the franchise Jessie Eisenberg as Alexander Luthor. Zac Snyder has done his best to pull off this project but left areas with fans unpleased. He sets up a a fact where Bateman is a killer and wonder woman was just there needing more development. However his was never going to be easy and was certainly enjoyable near the end. My rating:7.6/10 Contains violence, threat and moderate use of bad language. I will also post an in depth review soon.

Spectre

Image
Released:26th October 2015 Bbfc rating:12 (varies to 15) The 5th spy film to be released in 2015 and only slightly manages to carry the genre as the hype was overdone for the film. The film is somehow not as good as sky fall and is easily seen as it brings nothing new and threw us at a villain we already knew instead of the mystery in the film. The bautista was a waste d character available for so much more but limited to a few lines of speech.overall the film is trying to hard to be too much with missed opportunity but still manages to keep you entertained. My rating: 7.0/10 Contains violence, mild language, threat and scenes that may disturb younger viewers.

Star wars: the force awakens

Image
Released:18th December 2015 Bbfc rating:12 With one of the last entry s to 2015 and by far overshadowing the likes of furious 7 and even the greats such as ant man and the avengers from 2015 this is welcome return to the franchise. The film has put our fears to the end as J J Abrams delivers a work as spectacular as star trek. With enough nostalgia to keep adults happy but not too much to bring the new generations of star wars fans Into the light and away from the prequels. With outstanding performances from new-comers to the franchise John Boyega and Daisy Ridley sided with Adam Driver to round it all off this will make your 2016 and made a lot of people's Christmases great. Contains moderate threat, moderate bad langue such as use of hell and damn, fantasy violence. My rating:9.4/10

Rush

Image
Bbfc rating:15 This is one of the greatest racing films I have seen in ages. This is one that delivers an emotional story of a rivalry so famous it general knowledge today. With Ron Howard delivering one of his most spectacular films ever you get van insight to the feelings of the drivers and the adrenalin they have. Chris hemsworth gives A very accurate portrayal of James hunt as a loose person and what him and niki Lauda went through as they pushed their lives to the edge. At points the film makes you feel emotional as we see a rivalry become a brother hood. A great film to watch with anyone. Scenes of strong sexual references, drug use and threat. My rating:8.8/10
