Its been 6 months without a major cinema release and excitment is certainly in the air for Nolans new blockbuster: Tenet. Tipped to be the saviour of cinema Nolan returns to type to give us a mind bending spy thriller which acts like a cross between James Bond and Incpetion. Spoilers ahead if you've not seen the film please read after seeing it. Tenet follows an unamed protagonist ( Washington ) as he attempts to stop Armaggedeon being caused by Andrei Sator ( Branagh ). The selling point of this film is what is known as inversion in the film, the ability for people or objects to act in reverse to the normal. You can be forgiven for bein confused, becuase if I'm honest, so was I. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this film, however trying to work out all the characters movements at every time did t some points leave me very dazzled. What did I like? Well its a very intersting flow for starters, the film doesnt walk you through or hold the hand of the audience, you are thrown straight in and expected to wor it out for yourself, and I liked that. One of the points taken from a lot of reviews is sound, which for the most part I can agree with. There are some points where you cannot hear dialogue which may be done intentionally, but if you want to undestand everything going on its not a great help. However I think at some other areas loudness adds to the intsnse nature of the film, and I would be intersted to see the orignal 15 rated cut of the film to see if that intese nature is built upon more. I liked Pattinsons Neil, I think he plays a very suave and intersting compaion to Washingtons main lead. Washington is the stand out of the film for me, his secret agent persona is brilliant and he just fits that part so well. What it did lack for me though was audience imagination. The end of Incpetion is brilliant beacuse of the nature of the cliffhanger, letting teh audience debate what happens, whereas in the film ( SPOILERS !!!!! ) its definative and closed, and for me it needs more of a Nolan - esque ending. Other than that I really enjoyed it though, great soundtrack from Goransson, very intersting story and a very original film to bring people back in.
Contains Torture scenes and Violence as well as moderate bad language
My Verdict: 8/10 ( Brilliant )
