Car movies certainly have become... interesting in modern cinema. The film becomes less focused on actual racing and story and more on spectacle and action. While this isn't necessarily bad ( unless its fast and furious 8)  it does seem like the magic of racing movies like Herbie and Senna have gone amiss, and while we have seen brilliant racing biopics such as rush they seem to focus more on the drivers than the driven. Enter Le Mans 66, which brings you the story of Ford v Ferrari in the 1966 24 hour endurance race after the acquisition of Ferrari goes sour. I think its fair to mention here that if you are not a massive fan of cars and racing it might be hard for you to get into the film. While it does get a lot into other subjects such as family and corporate backstabbing its fair to say that this film is centrally about three main characters, Carol Shelby ( Damon ), Ken Miles ( Bale ) and the Ford GT40 race car.  I'm gonna go ahead and say it, I really enjoyed this film, I think the pacing was brilliant, the character portrayal was on point and you really do feel for each of them throughout the movie. It does get repetitive near the end of the film, which some may find a disturbance however I think that works well for the character of Ken Miles and you really get a sense of what he went through. By the end it really does tug your emotional strings, especially with a stand out performance from Matt Damon. as I said before if your not a fan of cars and racing then the scenes of testing and production may not be your cup of tea but i honestly think that there is something in here for everyone and is well worth a watch. Want a racing film to deliver some proper emotion and story, go watch Le man 66.
Contains threat, violence and frequent bad language.
My rating 9/10 ( Incredible )
