Most people will know what the story of Emma is, however for the few who may not, this new film is based off the novel of the same name by Jane Austen and follows Emma Woodhouse who plays the game of matchmaking with her friends and family, often with success. However as the film progresses her success starts to dwindle and problems start arising. Right, off the bat I will lay it down that; I really enjoyed this film ( something which will shock you if you've seen the average genre of my other reviews). I will admit that it starts quite slow and it took me a little while to get into the story of it, however by the end of it I was fully onboard with it, almost hysterical throughout and really feeling for the characters in the film, very much engrossed in what was going on. Taylor Joy and Nighy are definitely the stand out performances of the film, I especially loved Nighy throughout the film with his satirical narcissism bringing a different branch of comedy to the film. it is beautifully shot throughout, with a very different and interesting way of telling the story across the year. There are some points I didn't like, it is quite slow to start off, taking a while to get into the full story. As well as this there are some characters I felt could be more fleshed out. However for a feel-good film it really does the job well, being funny all the way through, with some characters purely devoted to the task of making you laugh, and managing overall to keep me engaged with a story very much out of the range of my demographic.
Contains moderate innuendo
