There was no doubt that the first Pacific Rim film was a mental action ride through what was essentially 2 hours to please everyone's inner child, that had a simple enough story and enough big robots and Aliens to keep you entertained. It is fair to say then that this film manages to achieve the same, with the same level of story as before, but with brilliant action pieces that you have to put minimal effort into. However it comes to a point where it feels like they just want to turn everything up to eleven, making it more entertaining than the last one without bothering to film in some plot points. There is no mention of the previous characters, and the story seems to fall apart as the film goes on. As well as this it felt like everything had to be more and bigger to be better, whether that was more Robots, or bigger aliens to cover up the fact that the story was very much the same as before, with a bit more information tagged on. As well as this it seemed very jumpy, going ' oh wait we can solve this problem easily through this' throughout the whole film. However, what it does lack in story and script it makes up for in spectacle, with awesome action scenes which does at the most part keep you entertained, and at the end of it all, this really isn't the sort of film you should be looking too much into anyway, as when it comes down to it, it is just a mindless action movie that is easier to watch than daytime television, and it always seems to have a disturbance in the plot, keeping the action moving through another problem after the next.  On the whole it was an enjoyable film, and enters the rare category of films that are easily re-watchable, which does make it good to me. And yes while it does lack in plot or writing, again that's not what this film was ever really going to be about, and that has to be accepted, and its not like Transformers, as while it is nearly the same premise, it manages to not be offensive and keep my attention until the end of the film.
Final thoughts: 2 hours of mindless action that needs no effort at all to watch
Contians Violence, moderate bad language and rude guestures
My rating 7.1/10
