John Wick Chapter 2

Released: 17th February 2017
BBFC rating: 15
Directed by: Chad Stahelski
The surprise hit that was John Wick brought a new light to a typical action film, and left more of an impact on the film industry, as well as being a lot larger than anyone thought it would be. Now John Wick returns to find that he is being called back into work by a marker, and John (Keanu Reeves) has no choice to start working again. It starts pretty much where the last one left off, where we find Mr. Wick dissolving the last of the Tarasov empire. After finally hoping for a retirement John is found by Santonia D'Antonio, who forces him to come back to work, at any cost. The film has everything that made the last one great, with the same action style and brutality of the first film, but still brings new aspects to a simple revenge story, which doesn't leave you feeling like your watching a copy paste of the last one. The idea of having the same basic principals and motives of chapter 1 however, means that you can watch the film easier, and makes it more relatable. The introduction of new characters such as Cassian (Common) and Bowery King( Lawrence Fishbunre) creates more density to the surrounding cast, and make it more than just one man killing faceless henchmen. The idea of having the secondary villain in Common creates more drama for the film, keeping it more suspenseful, knowing that there is more of a threat in this character. I love how it keeps all the wittiness in the story, using the same nonchalant-ness of assassination, and how it expands on the underground assassin empire from the first one. Honestly it is a really fun and enjoyable action sequel, and will leave you aching for chapter three by the end of it.
Contains Frequent Bad language and Heavy violence
My rating 7.8/10
