Independence day: Resurgence

Image
BBFC rating 12 Released June 24th 2016 Directed by Roland Emmerich. After the events that unfolded in the first film, and the fact that there was no set up what so ever for this film, the idea that another one would be made was what fans of the nineties and nerds where waiting for. Unfortunately like most other massive summer blockbusters this year, it could not live up to the hype. Instead of delving into gripping storylines and great speeches, the film instead focuses on the fact that humans have alien technology, so let's have some scenes showing off the special effects in that. As well as that the film takes a long while to get to a decent pace in the first act, followed by incredibly rushed plot, back to slow scenes that make zero sense. However the action of the film is very well done, making the dogfights that people want to see very plausible and engaging, as well as some more alien action seen in the last film. The issue that arose from this is that the moderation b...

The Lego Batman movie

Image
BBFC rating U Released 10th February 2017 After the large success of 2014's the Logo movie, this spin off instalment was highly anticipated, and it pulled off. The great thing about this film is that it has very few limits, with slot of the batman mythos being allowed to be explored, such as obscure references, and call backs to the previous films featuring the Batman. As well as that the big tie in at the end really helps to bring the film out, but I'm not going to add spoilers. As well as that the roasting of the other DC films helps to bring an extra layer of comedy into the film for nerd  like me, and the amount of Easter eggs in the film where very intriguing. Honestly for adults and children alike thus us one of the best animated films I've seen, an dis probably one of my favourite films if that wasn't enough. Contains humour and references My rating 8.7/10 Image subject and copyright to Warner brothers animated pictures. I do not own this image.

Whiplash

Image
Released 2014 BBFC rating 15 Directed by Damien Chazelle Musical films have never really had me very interested before, and it could be a similar case to a lot of people reading this now, but this file really shows how good they can be, and just to clarify, it is a film surrounding music, not a musical. The film balances this really well, not feeling like the music is taking it away from the plot of the story, instead focusing more on the relationship between the two main characters played by Miles Teller and J.K Simmons. However when the music is introduced in the film, it is extraordinary, with great numbers thrown in, as well as good drama sewn into the music itself. If your looking for a film that really gets you interested, and looking for a film that will show you how well a film can be done, this is a good place to start. Contains bad language and scenes of injury My rating 8.9/10 Image subject and copyright to Sony pictures. I do not own this image.

The Bourne supremacy

Image
Released 23rd July 2004 BBFC rating 12 Directed by Paul Greengrass After the success that was the Bourne identity, Matt Damon returns to the franchise with a blast. Follow Bourne through his past, after a tragic accident left him empty an edge is hunted by the C.I.A to bring him back. The film world very well with the overall plot well balanced with action to keep the viewer engaged in it, and it moves well to keep you understanding of what is happening. The only issue with it is the obssesvie shaky camera, which causes nausea on a massive level. Apart from that I would highly recommend this film, it will thoroughly entertain you and with a new addition of Brian Cox and Karl Urban into the mix, it truly is an action spectacle. Contains violence and bad language My rating 7.7/10 Image subject and copyright to universal pictures, I do not own this image

The Big short

Image
Released 2015 Bbfc rating 15 Director: Adma McKay The big short is a film that not many people may have heard of, but they really should. Based on the novel by Michael Lewis, comes a drama that is scarily realistic, because it was. After the economical collapse of America in 2005, 4 people try to make money off of the situation, the film focuses around these four people for the entirety, with a well narrated background story telling from a Ryan Gosling. Now the idea of a film about banking doesn't seem very interesting or gripping, but it manages to keep the story engaging for the viewer, switching between each person in the film around every 20 minutes, including people like Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt. And if you think the film is hard to understand at some points, the film fourth wall breaks with some well known celebrity cameos to help you out, e.g Margot Robbie in a bubble bath. It's the mixture of fourth wall breaks and drama that makes this film so ...
